On May 4, the Ukrainian Women’s Congress held a special event dedicated to the effective participation of women in security and defense processes, the experience of Ukrainian women during a full-scale war, and the development of the veterans’ movement.

The Congress was attended by journalists, MPs, public and political figures, and representatives of international organizations. Anastasiya Didenko, senior associate at LCF Law Group, was invited to attend the event.

Since the first days of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Nastia has been deeply involved in the volunteer movement: she has been engaged in logistical support of the military, counseling civilians, and providing legal assistance to victims of sexual violence, which, among other things, occurred against the backdrop of the war.

“The speech of Olga Stefanyshyna, Vice Prime Minister for European Integration of Ukraine, resonates very much. She said that February 24 marked an important transformation of our society. Back then, no one paid attention to whether you were a man or a woman. They looked at those who could take leadership and responsibility, who were ready to work, who were on their places. Today, the principle of equality in the security and defense sector is being further strengthened. However, there are still not enough women represented in these areas, as well as in peacebuilding,” – Anastasia shared her impressions. “In addition, the Congress raised an important topic about the problems of the veteran movement and the needs of demobilized soldiers. The event left me with a lot to think about and valuable ideas that I will use in helping victims of sexual violence.”
