Anastasia Didenko moderated public discussion devoted to the sexual violence
On June 20, the Office of the Vice Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration in partnership with the NGO UA Experts, the Ukrainian Bar Association, and the Response&Prevention Social and Legal Project held a public discussion “Partnership for Change: Shifting the Burden of Proof in Sexual Violence Cases”.
The meeting was moderated by Anastasia Didenko, Senior Associate at LCF Law Group, member of the Ukrainian Bar Association, and the Ukrainian Women Lawyers Association “YurFem”.
The discussion resulted in the development of joint practical steps to:
– increase the number of appeals from victims of sexual violence, including conflict-related sexual violence (CRSV);
– introduce a separate article on CRSV in national legislation;
– train/upskill law enforcement officers to minimize psychological trauma to victims during investigations;
– amend the legislation to require the mandatory participation of lawyers in this category of crimes;
– develop a mechanism and algorithms for compensation for victims of conflict-related sexual crimes;
– approve algorithms for filing applications by victims of sexual violence who are abroad.
