Sergiy Hai

The work “Untitled” belongs to the series “Riders”, which was presented at the artist’s solo exhibition in “TRYPTYCH ART” gallery in 2013.

According to the author, the subject matter of his works always remains unchanged – portraits, nude, still life, riders – and is motivated only by the love to the subject of the image. At the same time, the artist’s imaginary system is based on iconic motives, traditional to the Western art canon – from the archaic era to the classical tradition.

The artist believes: “The Biblical theme is the foundation upon which the whole Christian world is based. It influences on creative thinking at the subconscious level. For example, the painting  of a rider in a Hutsul traditional costume on a red horse. Except the ethnography of the image, it has something epic, biblical. In addition, Hutsul region is an extremely religious land”.

This work, like other works of Sergiy Hai, has no name. The artist explains: “When a person looks at the picture, there is a kind of dialogue, when everyone can create their own, associative name for the image. As an artist I don’t want to “bind” the viewer to the picture. Painting, like any other form of human activity, is encoded – it is information and emotions conveyed by spots, textures, and colors”.

Sergiy Hai

Born in 1959 in Lviv where currently lives and works. Graduated from Lviv State Institute of Applied and Decorative Art in 1986. The artist is a member of a National Artist’s Union of Ukraine since 1995. Since 2003 is a member the “BG-ART” association. According to edition “100 artists. Modern and Contemporary Ukrainian art Since Independence” belongs to hundred of the best artists of Ukraine. Teaches pictorial art at the design department in National Forestry and Wood-Technology University of Ukraine in Lviv.

Sergiy created more than 300 works. Participant and winner of many international art festivals, biennales and group exhibitions:
